Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Niger State, Mallam Idris Sani Mohammed, has been abducted by heavily armed bandits from his residence at Baban Tunga in Tafa local government area of the state.
BIGPENNGR understands that the Commissioner was seized Sunday night around 1:00am during the heavy downpour which lasted till morning in the state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the abduction earlier on Monday said: “What I will advise is for people to be patient as the state government will make an official confirmation on that. I don’t think we should be contradicting ourselves.

“He is a very senior official of the state government. The state government will issue an official confirmation”.

Reports say barely few minutes after the PPRO comment, the state government confirmed the abduction of the Information Commissioner.

Secretary to the Government of Niger state, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, who also confirmed the abduction on Monday, however said that security agents are already on the trail of the abductors.

“He was kidnapped at the early hours of today around 1:00am at Baban tunga in Tafa local government. Security are already on the trail of the kidnapper, we hope they would discover him soon and rescue him unharmed,” he said.

Multiple reports say the Commissioner was held by gunmen numbering about 20, who stormed the residence under the heavily downpour and shot sporadically into the air before abducting their victim in front of his second wife.
