APC Leaders Want Buhari To Appoint NDDC Chairmanship Position From Delta South

Leaders of the All Progressive Congress from Delta South have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint the chairman of a substantive board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from Delta South senatorial zone.

BIGPENNGR reports that the APC leaders made the call at a crucial meeting held in Koko, Warri North Local Government Area of the state on Friday.

This is coming as indication shows that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board chairmanship position, have been reportedly zoned to Delta state.

In a communique read by APC Organising Secretary in the state, Sir Amorighoye Mene, the Delta South APC leaders appealed to President Buhari to pick one of the leaders of the party from the area as chairman of the soon-to-be constituted board of the NDDC.

They urged President Buhari to consider appointing an indigene of Isoko, Itsekiri or Ijaw from the area as chairman of the incoming board. They affirmed that the people of the 3 ‘Is’, despite jointly producing over 80 percent of oil and gas in the state, are the most neglected and marginalised.

The party leaders, however attributed the ‘marginalisation’ of its members in appointment into federal position to lack of unity among party faithful and there resolved to unite and drive the progress of the APC in Delta South to win future elections in the state.

The meeting, however passed a vote of confidence on the President Buhari-led government and urged him not to relent in the battle against insecurity, banditry and corruption.

They, also passed a vote of confidence on the Mai Mala Buni-led Interim National Caretaker Committee of the party, Chief Odigie Oyegun led peace and reconciliation committee as well as the Hon. Idris Wase led contact and strategy committee for ensuring that total peace and harmony returns to the party in the state ahead the forthcoming congresses.

Besides, the meeting enjoined the party leadership to zone the 2023 presidency to Southern Nigeria in the interest of equity, justice, fair play and national unity.

The communiqué reads in parts; “that the APC Delta state can win all the 2023 general elections if the three Senatorial districts resolve to close ranks and work together in the interest of the party.

“That we urge our great party leadership to zone the presidency to the South in 2023 presidential elections in the interest of equity, Justice and fair play and national unity.

“That we demand that the chairmanship of the party in the state should be retained in Delta South Senatorial district in the forthcoming state Congress in the interest of equity, fairness and justice.

“That the three Is of Delta South area constitutes the oil producing area of Delta state. Now that the position of chairman is zoned to Delta, it is only natural that our people should be the first to be considered for this position.

“We therefore urge President Buhari to appoint one of any of the Itsekiris, Isokos or Ijaws for this position”.

Speaking earlier, a former commissioner for heath and host of the meeting, Dr. Ideh, said that since governorship will “likely” go to Delta Central district, it will be fair for the South to “continue to keep the state chairmanship” of the APC.
He added that Delta South has been “optimally marginalised” because they “have not shown some kind of binding as a people”, adding that many things have eluded the zone because of disunity.
Emami said that he was in support of the position that the 2023 governorship should go to Delta Central while the South senatorial district retain the chairmanship position of the Delta.
Deputy chairman of the party, Engr. Elvis Ayomanor who also attended the meeting, in a goodwill message, thanked the Delta South leaders for the efforts made to call the meeting despite plot by some forces to thwart it.

The meeting was attended by some leaders of the party including Prof. Bello Orubebe, Ologbotsere of Warri, Chief Ayirimi Emami, Dr. Alex Tosan Ideh and the Delta South APC chairman, Tosan Awani, Engr Elvis Ayomanor.
