Gunmen Kill Mobile Police Officer, Cart Away Service Rifle In Delta

A mobile police officer attached to a yet-to-be identified Very Important Person (VIP), has been reportedly shot dead and his service rifle carted while on a guard duty along Oviri-Ogor road, Ughelli, Delta state.

BIGPENNGR.COM understands the police officer was shot dead on Sunday after he accompanied the wife of his late boss to a new generation church in Ughelli.

The death of the mobile police officer brings the number of officer recently killed in Ughelli to four.

BIGPENNGR.COM understands the slain police officer whose name was given as Insp. Ninyel Nwangwang served at PMF 31 Ogwashi Uku but he was on escort duty until he meant his untimely death.

According to an eyewitness, the gunmen who came in their numbers were said to have  open fire on the policeman who escorted his late boss wife to a church service in one of new generational churches along Oviri –Ogor road on Sunday February 14, 2021.

A member of the church who preferred anonymity said that the development had triggered confusion inside the  church to why the gunmen trailed and killed the police officer who had escorted a member of the church whose husband died few month ago.

When contacted, a senior police officer in ‘A’ Division, Ughelli, confirmed the killing lamenting however the unprofessional attitude of some police officer who indulge in illegal duty.

“A Nigeria police officer who is on special duty must report to his boss about his movement either within or not his area of jurisdiction, we got a call that a Mobile was shot dead in one of the Pentecostal Church, Victorious Faith Fire Assembly along Oviri-Ogor road, Ughelli”

Reacting to the killing, the Commandant of Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), comrade Monday Ohwesiri, said the recent killing of police officer and carting way of their service guns in the council area is a sign of warning and a call to all secret operatives to wake up to their responsibilities.

When contacted, the Delta State police image maker, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya confirmed the incident adding that the police are investigating the circumstance that led to the gruesome killing. She, however said that the police are in the trail of the assassinator to recover the missing rifle and bring the penetrator to book.

As at the time of filing this report the remains of the slain mobile police officer has been deposited at Ughelli Central Hospital morgue while investigation is ongoing.

It would be recall that barely a month ago three mobile police officer attached to a popular entries and event centre in Ughelli were gruesomely killed at their duty post.
