Police Rescues Abducted Wife, Son Of Late Edo Speaker

The police from Kogi State command have reportedly rescued the earlier kidnapped wife and son of the late former Speaker of Edo State, Hon. Zakawanu Garuba.

Police Spokesman in the state, DSP William Aya who earlier confirmed the abduction, said that police swung into action immediately after receiving the report of the incident which occurred along Okene -Lokoja road on Saturday

He said that three of the victims had been rescued while the bush was being combed to locate others.

According to him, police have earlier in the day foiled attempted kidnap of six persons along Obajana-Kabba road.

Report says a younger brother to the deceased Speaker who preferred anonymity, also confirmed the release of the victims excluding the driver of vehicle in which they travelled.

Recalls the captors seized their victims while travelling from Abuja to Auchi with other relations for the burial rites of Garuba.

Garuba had died earlier on Saturday in Abuja as a result of undisclosed illness.

Reports say the gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, rained bullets on their vehicle at Irepeni community along the road, forcing the vehicle to stop.

In a jiffy, they seized the wife and son of the late Speaker, other relations except his aged mother and fled the scene.
