Several persons were reportedly trapped and many dead as a petroleum tanker gutted fire in Onitsha, the commercial nerve centre of Anambra state on Wednesday.

Eyewitness who sent pictures of the incident to BIGPEN Online, said that a truck plying the ever-busy Onitsha road lost control and ram into buildings around Upper Iweka end of the metropolis.

The source said that several persons were roasted alive by the ensuing explosion from the tanker.

According to our source, the incident triggered commotion around the Ochanja market area as both residents and traders scampered for safety.
