Political Jobbers Misconstrue Me, Says Senator Who Call For Buhari’s Impeachment

Matthew Urhoghide, the lawmaker who is in the centre of the alleged call for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari, has said that political jobbers misconstrued the context of his motion.

The senate who representing Edo South in the red chamber, denied calling for President Buhari’s impeachment, saying that what he did was to raise questions about the infringement on the constitution by Mr President on the purchase of the fighter jets.

BigPen Online recalls, that during the debate on the contentious issue, Senator Urhogide who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Public Account, moving a motion opined that “It’s a violation of Section 80 subsection 1, 2, 3, 4.

He was quoted to have said, “The procedure of the expenditure is wrong. There ought to be an appropriation before such expenditure. I hereby request that the Senate President should invoke Section 18 of the Constitution.”

Mr Urhogide cites Orders 15, 42 & 52, says this matter should be forwarded to the appropriate committee.

“The President’s request is wrong, it’s a violation of our process, proceedings and the 1999 Constitution (as amended)”.

Addressing reporters in Benin over the weekend, the lawmaker said he was only out to inform Nigerians about some infringement committed by President Buhari in the purchase of some military aircrafts and to draw attention to the part of the constitution that addresses such breaches.

Senator Urhoghide said his action was misconstrued by political jobbers out to satisfy the ego of their pay masters and cause disaffection for perceived critics of the government ahead of the 2019 polls.

Urhoghide stressed that most of those who are making a mountain out of a molehill on the issue are not abreast of what the constitution enumerate in section 80 which the president violated.

The senator averred that it may be argued that the president based on security challenges in some parts of the country had a noble intention to purchase the aircrafts and other military wares but his approach is improper.

He appealed to such ‘ignoramus’ to endeavour to give the constitution the correct interpretation on all issues most especially as it relates to governance and accountability.

On the attack on him at the Benin Airport by some miscreants said to be supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state government, Senator Urhoghide stated that the action had the support of some key officials of the Governor Godwin Obaseki led administration, adding that it all happened at the Benin Airport in the full glare of governor, the state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Babatunde Kokumo and some top ranking security personnel.

He vowed that the action will not deter him from upholding the oath of office he took to be diligent in his legislative duties.
