It was suppose to be a case of unlawful conversion of government property and assault but an ensuing incident has blown up the secret undercurrent ‘sexual romance’ going on at the Central Hospital Sapele, Delta State.

BigPen Online learnt that the development which is currently generating heat at the hospital was blow up after a male acquaintance of the hospital Administrator, Caroline Azegbo, stormed the hospital and beat to a point of death one Lewis Oghueh, a staff perceived to be his rival.

The hospital MD is also said to be caught in the web of the scandal, as his posture has given him away as one of those who own the said Azegbo ‘favour’.

The incident which happened on January 26, had exposed the ‘secret romance’ going on in the hospital particularly between the said Caroline Azegbo and her male acquaintance, one Efe Iyanu, who is known around the hospital vicinity.

Trouble started for Lewis Oghueh when the hospital administrator’s car had battery problem and she requested that Oghueh who is incharge of the hospital generator gave her one of the batteries for use.

Rather than return the battery, allegedly, she unlawfully converted the government property to her own with all efforts by Oghueh to retrieve it failing.

Weeks later, Azegbo was said to have resorted to threat and intimidation of Oghueh whom she had mutual relationship with prior to the release of the said battery to her.

Our source revealed Mrs Azegbo rather than return the battery as requested by Oghueh brought her ‘lover’, who has unhindered access to any part of the hospital to beat him up when he was trying to explain what transpired to the MD.

According to the source, “Oghueh was called by the MD to come and check the battery in Mrs Azegbo’s car, but before he could say anything, Mr Efe Iyanu, descended on him punching, and slapping him and because it’s against the civil service rule, he couldn’t fight back as he was beaten until he almost passed out, while the MD looked on.

“He was later rushed to the emergency unit of the hospital where medical doctors treated him and was later placed on admission and was discharged after about three days on admission.

Following the misgiving and tension the incident had generated, the Hospital Medical Director who is also at the center of the crisis hurriedly set-up a 5-man administrative panel to investigate the matter.

However, the estranged administrator allegedly infiltrated the panel, and had boasted that nothing will come out of their investigation.

A source who crave anonymity disclosed that the panels set up by the hospital management and the Delta State Hospital Board may have been compromised.

The source hinted that Mrs Azegbo popularly referred to as ‘iron-lady’ may have penetrated the panelist many, whom hold ‘her great favour’.

“The hope of the staff getting justice is very slim as according to the source, Mrs. Azegbo as far as Hospital Management is concerned, she is on touchable and to lead credence to this fear, she was alleged to have gone to Asaba on Monday where he used the opportunity to reach out to the members of the panel sent to Sapele to investigate the crisis.

The source added; “my brother the woman and her lover are very powerful people, even when the case of assault reported against him at the Sapele police station, nothing came out of it, rather the man is now using officers from the new Area Commander’s office to harass and intimidate the victim.

As at time of filling this report for publication, tongues are still wagging over the incident which has caused great uncertainty in the hospital as most of the staff wondered why the MD feels haplessly helpless to address the matter head-on, but has rather allegedly taken side with the man who assaulted his staff.

Efforts to get comments from the trio of the MD, Ogueh and Mrs Azegbo didn’t yield any result as they decline to speak, nothing that the matter is being investigated and that as civil servants, they are not authorized to speak to the press.
