Asaba Athletic Championship: Delta Announces Road, Traffic Diversions

The Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) and the Asaba 2018 Local Organising Committee (LOC), as part of efforts to ensure a hitch-free Asaba 2018 African Senior Athletics Championship has announced road and traffic diversions in the Asaba, the Delta state capital.
The tournament will hold at the reconstructed Stephen Keshi Stadium along Nnebisi road in Asaba from Wednesday, August 1st to Sunday, August 5th 2018.
A statement jointly signed on Tuesday by Rindom Kumven – Sector Comd FRSC, Stephen Dieseruvwe -DG, DESTMA, as well as Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (Rtd) – Head, LOC Security Committee, disclosed that the traffic diversions during the championship was as a result of road closures at two points along Nnebisi Road.
The statement advised motorists and commercial vehicles to use alternative routes as listed below:
• Motorists coming from Inter Bau Roundabout, Old Anwai Road and FMC Roundabout to link Ibusa Road shall be diverted through Kanene Azinge Street (by Kowea Plaza). Following the diverted traffic signs, turn left onto Jesus Saves Street, then right onto Everrose Road and left onto Direct Labour Agency Road to link Ibusa Road to connect Ogbogonogo Modern Market or Benin-Asaba Expressway.
• Motorists from Anwai, Government House Road and Okpanam Road can link Ibusa Road through Jesus Saves Street, Direct Labour Agency Road or Benin-Asaba Expressway.
• Motorists from Okpanam and Legislative Quarters can link Benin-Asaba Expressway and Direct Labour Agency Road through Delta Broadcasting Service Road (DBS), then turn left onto Delta Development Property Authority Road (DDPA) to join Summit Road.
• Motorists from Cable Point Road and Dennis Osadebay Way heading to Anwai, Summit Road and Okpanam Road should go through Ezenei Avenue to link Benin-Asaba Expressway and turn onto Summit Road.
• Motorists coming from Ogbogonogo Modern Market shall be diverted left through Ibusa Road and Ilukwu Inalu Street. Follow the diverted traffic signs to turn right onto Direct Labour Agency Road or follow the road ahead to join the Benin-Asaba Expressway to link Summit Road.
• During the competition, the following areas have been designated as ‘park and ride’ areas: Arcade; St Patrick’s College and Westend Mixed Secondary School, with clear directions to these locations.
The statement added that all adjoining streets and feeder roads to Nnebisi Road and around the Stephen Keshi Stadium would be temporarily closed to ensure the safety and security of officials, participants and spectators. DESTMA, FRSC, Traffic Police Officers and security personnel shall be at all strategic points and junctions to control and manage traffic in order to reduce travel time, congestions and delays. In addition, on-street parking shall be prohibited on the roads and streets mentioned above.
Therefore, motorists and pedestrians should please cooperate and comply with traffic rules and regulations during the championships and at all times.
We also apologise for any inconvenience the championship may cause as a result of road closures and diversions.
