The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has fired back at the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd.), demanding proof or a public apology over a grave allegation linking the ex-governor to killings in Southern Kaduna.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the family, they gave the Minister a 7-day ultimatum to either provide evidence or retract the claim.

The controversy began on September 3, 2026, during a live edition of  Politics Today on Channels Television. General Musa allegedly accused the former governor of actively planning killings in Southern Kaduna during his time in office.

Reacting, the El-Rufai family described the allegation as “grave” and expressed concern that the Defence Minister made the claim without presenting any evidence.

The family acknowledged that the Minister was entitled to his personal views, but said they were equally entitled to demand credible proof for such a serious accusation.

“In the absence of such evidence, we call on him to publicly retract the allegation through the same medium on which it was made,” the statement read.

“Accordingly, General Musa (Rtd.) is hereby given seven (7) days from the date of this statement to either provide evidence in support of his allegation or issue a full public retraction and apology.”

They warned that failure to comply would force them to take legal action.

“Failure to do so will leave the family with no option but to pursue all appropriate legal remedies available under the law in response to these unsubstantiated allegations,” it added.

The demand sets up a tense showdown between the Defence Minister and one of Kaduna’s most prominent political families, as the 7-day clock now begins to tick.
