‎Sowore: Demolish Mansions of Corrupt Politicians if Government Targets Kidnappers’ Properties

Published

on

‎Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has argued that the demolition of properties linked to criminal activities should not be restricted to kidnappers alone, insisting that corrupt public officials who acquire assets through stolen public funds should face similar consequences.

‎Sowore made the assertion via his official X handle on Tuesday while reacting to the growing practice of demolishing houses allegedly used for kidnapping operations in parts of the country.

‎According to him, if the government genuinely believes that properties acquired through or used for criminal activities should be destroyed, then the same principle must be applied to politicians and other influential individuals who loot public resources and invest the proceeds in luxury homes and vast estates.

‎”There is no reason why the demolition of houses should be limited only to kidnappers,” Sowore stated. “Public treasury looting is a form of kidnapping too. It kidnaps healthcare, education, jobs, infrastructure, and the future of millions of Nigerians.”

‎The activist argued that corruption has inflicted far-reaching damage on the country, depriving citizens of essential services and economic opportunities, while allowing a privileged few to amass enormous wealth through illicit means.

‎He maintained that mansions and other properties traced to stolen public funds should be demolished just as authorities have done with buildings linked to kidnapping and other violent crimes.

‎Sowore’s remarks have added to the ongoing debate over the government’s use of property demolition as a deterrent against criminal activities, with supporters arguing that the policy should be applied uniformly to all forms of crime, regardless of the status of those involved.
