Delta Police Rescue Kidnap Victim, Arrest 2 Suspected Drug Dealers

Operatives of Abraka Division of the Delta State Police Command, have rescued a kidnapped victim abducted by armed men at Abraka, Ethiope East local government area of the state.

This comes as the police arrested two suspected drug dealers at separate operations.

The kidnap victim was rescued successfully by operatives on April 3, following a report received on April 1, that hoodlums had invaded a residential apartment at Denedo Extension Abraka.

Confirming this in a statement, on Saturday, Delta state Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe, said that the Divisional Police Officer in the area, mobilised patrol teams in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters and stormed the bush where the victim was taken to.

He said that the suspects upon noticing that the policemen were closing in on them, abandoned the victim and took to their heels.

Edafe, said subsequently the victim was rescued in a bush along the railway line.

He said that victim is safe and has provided useful information, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects.

Similarly, operatives of the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) of the command, acting on credible intelligence, have arrested one Evan Olokpa Igbunu, aged 29 in Sapele.

The suspect was apprehended on April 2, during a coordinated raid on the residence at Ogborumu Street, NDDC Road Area.

“A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of one Baretta pistol and three rounds of live ammunition concealed within the building. The suspect is in custody, while investigation is ongoing”, he said.

On 3 April 2026, operatives of Ugborikoko Division, acting on credible intelligence, also arrested 26-year-old Tare Orusanaye, a suspected female drug dealer.

Her arrest followed a raid on a premises at Jakpa Road, Effurun. “A female suspect, Tare Orusanaye, aged 26, was arrested in possession of substances suspected to be cannabis, a weighing scale, tobacco items, and a generator tank used to conceal the drugs. Investigation is ongoing”, Edafe said in the statement.

The statement, said that operatives of Ovwian-Aladja Division, on April 1, also carried out a raid in Igbogidi axis, Udu council area, acting on information from a surveillance team regarding suspicious activities along the area.

Edafe said that the suspects, on sighting the police fled the scene, leaving a sack containing substances suspected to be hard drugs which was recovered.

While saying efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects Edafe said the state Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has commended the operatives for their proactive response and professionalism.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and urged members of the public to continue to provide credible information to assist the Police in combating crime across the State.
