16 Years Old Muslim Girl, Jamila Trafficked To Delta, ‘Forcefully’ Given Christian Name

The Police Command in Delta State has commenced investigation into a case of human trafficking in which a 16 years old girl who was abducted in Niger State, was trafficked to Delta state, where she was forcibly converted with a Christian name given to her.

BIGPENNGR reports that the girl was said to have been abducted when she was twelve years old and brought to one Mrs. Gloria Ugbebor who changed her name to Dorcas Peter and took her to Lagos where she was handed over to one Azubuike and obliged to work as a house help.

State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Edafe Bright, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

Giving a graphic details of the incident; DSP Bright said; “On the 20/6/2021 at about 1320hrs, sequel to the unrelenting manhunt of child traffickers, intelligence at the Command disposal revealed that a girl was seen roaming around a church premises in Asaba which attracted some good Samaritans who suspected that all is not well with her”.

According to him, the Commander Eagle net Special Squad detailed operatives to the scene and the child was brought to the station.

He said that preliminary investigation later revealed that she was kidnapped along with three other kids by unknown men with a car while they were playing in their village surroundings in Niger State.

DSP Bright stated that the victim, Jamila Shagari ‘f’ age 16yrs, also narrated that she was twelve years old when she was kidnapped and brought to one Mrs. Gloria Ugbebor  ‘f’ age 39yrs resident of No. 15 Kingdom Hall Umunede community and her name was change to Dorcas Peter by the said suspect and taken to Lagos where she was handed over to one Azubuike, she served him as a house help for two years.

Speaking further, the PPRO said; “after much suffering in Mr. Azubuike’s house, she then returned to Mrs. Gloria Ugbebor in Umunede who later handed her over to one Mrs. Vera Olunwa ‘f’ age 62yrs resident of opposite Koka junction Asaba-Ibusa express way Asaba.

The two suspects Mrs. Gloria Ugbebor  ‘f’ age 39yrs  and Mrs. Vera Olunwa ‘f’ age 62yrs  were arrested while  two other children Nuhu Yohanna ‘m’ age 12yrs and Abednego Joshua ‘m’ age 11yrs who were in custody of Mrs. Gloria Ugbebor were also rescued.

He said that effort is on to locate the biological parents of the said victim adding that investigation is ongoing with a view to arrest their other accomplices.

Equally, DSP Bright disclosed; “On 7/6/21, while men of safer highway Patrol were on stop and search duty along Warri-Sapele road, intercepted one Amusa transport company bus, one of the suspect on reasonable suspicion was asked to come down with his luggage for search, on searching the said suspect, 20 exotic phones, three Laptops suspected to have been stolen, and one charm bullet proof were recovered from him. The suspect Bernard Aloba ‘m’ age 26yrs was arrested, investigation is ongoing.

“Similarly, the Commander Safer high way Patrol SP Joseph Onubi in compliance with CPs directive on the deployment on Safer highway patrol teams to engage in rigorous stop and search along the highways, detailed some patrol teams to Ughelli-Patani road. On the 20/6/2021 at about1500hrs, while they were on stop and search duty along the Ughelli-Patani road, they intercepted a commercial vehicle, and asked all passengers to get down for search, while the search was on, one of the passengers whose name and address is unknown suddenly jumped into the bush and escaped, on searching his luggage, twenty-four (24) android phones of different makes was recovered from his bag. However, one of his gang members Iliyasu Hamzat ‘m’ who kept calling the suspect phone to find out what is delaying the delivery of the stolen phones, was tactically lured and arrested by the police. Manhunt for the fleeing suspect is ongoing.

He, however said that the Commissioner of police Delta state CP Ari Muhammed Ali, has urged members of the public particularly travelers, to always exercise patience with the police while they are performing their duties especially during stop and search, saying that the exercise is for the good of all passengers on board, and Deltans in General, as its one of the proactive measures taken to nip crime in the bud.

DSP Bright, said that Ali assured residents of the states that extortion of any kind by officers and men of Delta state will not be tolerated, however urging members of the public to give credible and timely information to the police when the need arises.
