Group Condemns Alleged Invasion Of Edo Community By Troops

The group, Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade, FHRACC has condemned alleged soldiers invasion of Ajakurama Community in Edo State under the guise of flushing out of militants.

National President of the group, Alaowei Cleric, Esq.said that the news that combined military contingents have launched a coordinated attack on Ajakurama Community in Edo State is condemnable.

According to him, the news of the unprovoked invasion came to us as rude shock even we are yet get detailed information about the destruction.

Due to the assurances the defense headquarters has being given to the Niger Delta people that its ongoing military drill is a friendly one, we thought that the exercise will be friendly, he said.

“However, to our dismay, what we are seeing is a complete disappointment. Operation Crocodile Smile 11 is becoming a tool of war to be launched against Niger Delta communities.

“Although details of the destruction is still sketchy to us, eyewitness account has it that the marauding and gun-wielded soldiers from the Koko Army unit went in company of some civilians with a good number of armoured gunboats to invade the Community.

“While we are yet to get official comments from the military, the whole thing looks like a third party action where some influential individuals are using the military to wreck havoc on perceived enemies.

“We can’t believed that the covetous and most respected Nigerian armed forces will reduced themselves as pawns in the hands of desperate individuals to ferment strife in the society.

“The Ajakurama unprovoked invasion is highly condemnable. We are yet to get any reason, in spite of our investigation to justify the action of the military.

“Let the military tell the world why they attacked the Community. We demand for prompt investigation of the invasion. The defense headquarters should prevail on its overbearing and power-hungry officers to order.

“This is an act of aggression and it may instigate crisis in the region. Operation Crocodile Smile 11 should not be hijacked by powerful individuals in the region to be used as a launch pad. Since the army keeps on telling us that its military drill is a friendly exercise, we can’t condone acts of serial invasions of innocent communities through the instrumentalities of the ongoing military drill. That is unacceptable. We will not hestitate to take legal action against the military should its operations turnout to be so”.
