Immediate past governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has told a touching story of former Supreme Court Judge, Justice Francis Fedode Tabai (CON) that is trending on online social network service, Facebook.

Uduaghan, reminiscence on how Justice Tabai was denied his eight siblings (born twins) who were killed by an obnoxious tradition and customs which Justice Tabai has now come to preside over.

Uduaghan recalled a touching story of the retired Justice that was told at the presentation of staff of office ceremony. He spoke of the storms went through by Justice Tabai and how he became a single child after tradition and customs took his siblings away from him.

Highlighting on the event, Uduaghan described Justice Tabai as his elder and friend who has a very robust profile, saying at 76 years, he has achieved a lot in life.

He said that Justice Tabai was firmly in control of his achievements at the Federal, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States, however “Something was, not under his control”.

Continuing, Uduaghan said,  “He is an only child, having lost 8 siblings to the then cruel “customs and traditions”.

What happened? “Like several traditions in our communities back then, twin children were murdered, he said.

According to him, HRM’s mum, had 2 sets of twins before he was born. He was a single birth. After him, the mother had two more sets of twins.

This is the touching clincher! “All The Sets Of Twins Were Thrown Into The High Sea To Drown Within Hours Of Being Born. That was the tradition then.

“So he lost eight siblings, Uduaghan recalled the bitter tale.

Continuing, he said, “As the story was being told at the ceremony yesterday, (Saturday) people developed goose pimples even under the hot sun.

“I was imagining what those children would have become today”.

Years after, the ugly tradition and custom was stopped, he recounted.

“Happily we were told that a few years after that, it took a bold and courageous headmaster, a lot of energy and determination to stop the killing of twins in that area”.

Winding up the story with nostalgia, Uduaghan, a top notch Delta State politician and 2019 candidate of the APC in Delta South Senatorial District, expressed joy that Justice Tabai was now coming to the throne to end more of such tradition and customs

“Today, there are still several customs and traditions that have to be stopped. HRM Rt. Justice F.F. Tabai and his colleagues must be bold enough to stop them. One that must be stopped immediately is Female Circumcision”.

He congratulated the monarch for ascending the throne of his forefathers, saying “You started life as a victim of tradition. At well over 76 years, you are back to take control of customs and traditions. I wish you a long and successful reign”.
