…Says elections not won by rallies alone

Former Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has said elections are not won by rallies alone, but by grassroots mobilisation and unity of purpose, insisting that Delta’s mass defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) must reflect in the 2027 votes.

Okowa, who is the APC senatorial candidate for Delta North Senatorial District, made the remark in Asaba on Thursday during the inauguration of the Delta State APC Campaign Council and in a post on his social media handles after the APC Stakeholders’ Meeting.

According to Okowa: “Elections are won not by rallies alone, but by the strength of our grassroots mobilisation, the quality of our engagement with the people and our ability to work together towards a common goal.

He said that at the APC Stakeholders’ Meeting in Asaba, “I emphasised the need for party leaders, women and youths to set aside their differences, embrace unity and take the party’s message to every ward, community and polling unit.

“Every stakeholder has a role to play, and the work must begin now.
With Governor Sheriff Oborevwori providing leadership for our party in Delta State, we must match our collective resolve with purposeful action, sustained mobilisation and a shared commitment to delivering results at the polls.

He urged party leaders to work in unity to deliver President Bola Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori and all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

“The task before us demands unity, discipline and hard work. Let us put our differences aside, engage our people and move forward together”, he wrote

Speaking on behalf of Delta North at the inauguration, Okowa said expectations were high after the mass defection of Delta political leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in April 2025, describing it as the largest political realignment in the state in recent years.

He noted that the defection must translate to overwhelming victory for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and all APC candidates in 2027, charging the campaign council led by Oborevwori as Chairman and Senator James Manager as Director-General to deliver at the polls.

Okowa, former Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP, defected alongside Governor Oborevwori and other leaders to the APC in what was described as the largest political realignment in Delta State in recent years.

Governor Oborevwori, while inaugurating the council, charged members to take the party’s message to market women, youths, farmers and traders in all polling units, unveiling “MORE Plus” as the theme of his re-election campaign.

The Governor said the campaign would be built on the achievements of the Tinubu administration and his M.O.R.E Agenda.

Other leaders who spoke at the event include Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, Delta APC Chairman Solomon Arenyeka, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor for Delta Central, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay for Delta South and Stella Okotete.
