The Isoko South Local Government Council in Delta State has resumed the distribution of school desks to public primary schools across the local government area to improve learning conditions for pupils.

The exercise, led by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Friday Ovoke Warri, took place in primary schools in Ikpide-Irri, where newly provided desks were handed over to address classroom furniture shortages.

The initiative, introduced under the Warri-led administration, is aimed at addressing shortages of classroom furniture and ensuring that pupils have access to comfortable seating arrangements in a conducive environment that promotes effective teaching and learning.

Speaking on the development, Warri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving basic education and providing essential learning facilities in public primary schools across Isoko South.

Warri stated that access to a conducive learning environment was essential to the academic development of children, stressing that his administration would continue to identify and address challenges affecting public schools in the area.

“Our children deserve a comfortable and conducive environment in which to learn. Education remains a critical foundation for the future of our communities, and we must do everything within our capacity to give our pupils the facilities they need to succeed.

“Providing school desks is not just about supplying furniture; it is about improving the quality of the learning environment and encouraging our children to take their education seriously,” the chairman said.

He further explained that the council was determined to ensure that public primary schools received the necessary attention, noting that inadequate classroom furniture could affect pupils’ comfort and concentration during lessons.

“We understand that improving education requires deliberate and practical action. This is why we are taking steps to address some of the basic challenges confronting our schools. We want our pupils to learn in an environment that supports their development, while also giving teachers the necessary conditions to carry out their responsibilities effectively,” Warri added.

The chairman also emphasised that the distribution exercise would extend to other government-owned primary schools across the local government area, assuring residents that the council remained focused on initiatives capable of improving the welfare of children and strengthening the basic education system.

He called on school authorities to ensure that the desks were properly maintained and used for their intended purpose, adding that the cooperation of teachers, parents and host communities was important to sustaining improvements in the education sector.

The distribution exercise is being coordinated under the direct supervision of the Secretary to the Isoko South Local Government Council, Hon. Zino Osuofa, who is overseeing implementation on behalf of the council chairman.

The council said the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to strengthening basic education, improving classroom facilities and creating a more supportive learning environment for pupils and teachers throughout Isoko South.
