‎…Backs Peter Obi for President

Former Deputy President of the 9th Senate and Delta Central Senatorial District candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has appealed to the people of Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State to support his return to the Senate in the 2027 general elections.

‎Omo-Agege made the appeal on Thursday while officially commencing his campaign activities ahead of the 2027 elections. He spoke during his campaign visit to National Democratic Congress (NDC) Wards 1, 2 and 3 in Effurun.

‎The former senator urged voters to support him to return to the National Assembly, saying he would continue from where he stopped and provide what he described as effective representation for the people of Delta Central Senatorial District.

‎He also called on voters to reject the incumbent senator representing the district and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at the polls.

‎Omo-Agege criticised the representation of Delta Central at the Senate, particularly over the development of the Sapele Seaport. He alleged that while the Federal Government had allocated about N3 trillion for the revitalisation of the Lagos Seaport, little effort had been made to attract similar attention to the Sapele Seaport.

‎He also questioned the level of development in Delta State despite what he described as about N4 trillion received by the state over the past three and a half years.

‎According to him, the state government’s major visible projects have been flyovers, with insufficient attention given to employment creation, education and other sectors affecting residents.

‎“An error needs to be corrected,” ‎ Omo-Agege told supporters, urging them to vote for candidates he described as capable of delivering better governance.

‎He recalled his role in facilitating federal institutions and projects in Delta State, including the Federal Polytechnic, the Nigeria Aerospace School in Orogun and the Defence Space School.

Supporters Expressing Support

‎“When the Defence Space School in Nigeria was to be established, one was going to Northern Nigeria and another was going to Western Nigeria, but I put my foot down to fight for it,” he said.

‎Omo-Agege further expressed concern over the condition of some public schools in the state, saying pupils still sit on bare floors despite the funds he claimed the state had received.

‎He also appealed to the electorate to support the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, saying his administration would protect the interests of the Urhobo people and promote economic development.

‎“When he becomes President, rest assured, the interest of Urhobo people will be protected under the administration of Peter Gregory. So, as you vote for me for Senator, vote for Peter Obi as President,” he said.

‎The former deputy Senate president also canvassed votes for the NDC governorship candidate, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, as well as the party’s House of Representatives, House of Assembly and other candidates.

‎Omo-Agege, who was accompanied by former Commissioner for Education Dr Veronica Ogbuagu, former Commissioner Judith Enamuotor and NDC House of Assembly candidate for Uvwie, Hon. Chief Rotimi O. Ukuade, urged voters to elect what he described as educated and experienced leaders.

‎He particularly appealed to voters to support Iyovwaye, whom he said had the capacity to address the challenges confronting Delta State, while making critical remarks about the educational background and experience of the incumbent governor.
