The 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League champion will receive ₦1 billion in prize money, up from previous seasons, after the NPFL board and NFF approved the increase to boost club investment and player welfare.

‎The announcement was made on Tuesday in Abuja by Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, after a strategic meeting with officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

‎As part of the reforms, stakeholders also approved a minimum monthly wage of ₦2 million for NPFL players in a move aimed at improving player welfare and raising professional standards across the league.

‎Under the new reward structure, the league champions will earn ₦1 billion, while the runners-up and third-placed teams will receive ₦500 million and ₦300 million respectively.

‎Dikko said the enhanced prize money is designed to boost the commercial value, competitiveness and attractiveness of the NPFL, while creating a more sustainable environment for clubs and players.

‎He commended NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and the federation’s General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, for their commitment to advancing Nigerian football, describing the discussions as productive and forward-looking.

‎According to Dikko, the NSC, NFF and NPFL leadership are aligned on a common vision to strengthen the domestic game and drive long-term growth across all levels of football in the country.

‎The meeting also resolved to enforce stricter club licensing regulations, with greater emphasis on meeting higher professional and operational standards throughout the league.
