The Principal and Chief Executive of the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Dr. Samuel Onoji, has described the media as an indispensable ally in amplifying the institute’s strides in human capital development and technological innovation within Sub-Saharan Africa’s oil and gas sector.

Dr. Onoji made these remarks at the institute’s headquarters in Effurun, Delta State, while hosting the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, during a courtesy visit aimed at deepening institutional collaboration.

Reflecting on the institute’s foundational blueprint, Dr. Onoji reminded stakeholders that PTI was established by the Federal Government with a clear directives: to engineer the specialized technical manpower required to power Nigeria’s oil and gas industry and to fulfill the nation’s strategic obligations as a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Over the decades, the institution has evolved into Africa’s premier hub for energy education, churning out high-caliber technicians, technologists, and industry executives through its robust diploma, certificate, and specialized short courses.

According to the Principal, sustaining a transparent and active relationship with the press is paramount to keeping the public informed about how PTI is meeting this national mandate.

“Maintaining a robust relationship with the media remains critical to showcasing the institute’s achievements, innovations, and future initiatives. Expanding our engagement with journalists will remain a top priority as we scale up our contributions to the energy sector.”
