Former Bauchi Governor Stages Comeback, Clinches APC Governorship Ticket 

Former Bauchi State Governor,  Mohammed Abubakar is on the process of coming back to power after defeating five main challenger to clinch the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the State.

Abubakar who served as governor of Bauchi State from 2015 to 2019 on the APC platform, lost his re-election bid to Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general election.

Bala Mohammed have served his two terms in office leaving the stage for Abubakar for a return to power under the ruling party

Abubakar was declared the winner of the keenly contested primary election by John Bassey-Abang, Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Election Committee, in the State.

Bassey-Abang stated that Abubakar polled 57,517 votes to defeat six other aspirants who participated in the primary election conducted on May 22, 2026.

Giving the breakdown on Saturday, the chairman said Nura Manu-Soro scored 13,638 votes; former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, secured 26,001 votes; while Bala Wunti polled 13,648 votes.

Others were Kabir Baba-Ma’aji with 8,157 votes, while Baba Suleiman and Yakubu Abdullahi got 7,688 and 7,181 votes respectively.

“Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, having secured the highest number of votes cast with a total of 57,517, is hereby returned as the winner of the APC governorship primary election in Bauchi State,” Bassey-Abang declared.

The chairman also announced the results of the party’s State House of Assembly primaries, which were held on May 21.
