There seems to be confusion across Delta Central eigjt local government councils as Senator Ede Dafinone and his main rival, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege are currently laying claim to victory in the Delta Central Senatorial District held on Monday.

Dafinone who represents Dleta Central in the Senate, in a post made on his verified Facebook page, says he has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary in Delta Central Senatorial District.

According to him, he polled 116,252 across the eight local government councils that made up the district while his main rival, former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, secured 3,643 votes.

The result was announced by the retuning officer for the election, Nusa Amagbor, Eqs.

Amagbor said, “As you are aware, the election was conducted through the direct primary method, which has consistently been adopted for all our elections in Delta State, including those for the House of Representatives and the Senate.

“At this stage, we are no longer collating results but making an official declaration, as the process has been duly concluded.

“By the powers conferred on me as the Secretary of the National Assembly Electoral Committee for Delta State, duly constituted by our National Chairman and the National Working Committee, I hereby affirm that the exercise has been successfully conducted.

“Based on the authenticated results before me; Senator Ede Dafinone scored a total of 116, 252 votes, his opponent scored a total of 3,643 votes.

“Having satisfied all the requirements of our great party and having secured the highest number of valid votes cast in this primary, Senator Ede Dafinone is hereby declared the winner of the Delta Central Senatorial District primary election.”

Reacting after he was declared the winner, Senator Ede Dafinone commended the process and thanked the people of Delta Central for the confidence reposed in him again.

He said: “What is my comment and assessment of the election, and what is my overall take? First of all, let me say that the process of the primaries was conducted in a manner that was transparent, open, free, and fair. Delta Central is, of course, a highly political terrain, and I want to use this opportunity to thank all those who supported me throughout our great party in achieving this victory today.

“I will also take this opportunity to call on Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to join forces with other members of our party so that we can work together for victory in 2027 across all positions”, he said.

Meanwhile, Omo-Agege has declared victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate primary for Delta Central Senatorial District, citing a decisive win across all 85 wards in the district’s 8 local government areas.

In a press statement he personally issued after Monday’s election, Senator Omo-Agege thanked party leaders, delegates, and members for what he described as “resolute support and historic turnout.” He said collated results showed “long open secret balloting queues in my favour,” which he called evidence of an overwhelming mandate for his shared vision with the APC in Delta Central.

The full statement reads:
“I extend my deepest gratitude to the leaders, delegates, and members of the All Progressives Congress in Delta Central Senatorial District for your resolute support and historic turnout in today’s Senate Primary Election.

“Based on collated results from all 85 wards across our 8 Local Government Areas, we have won decisively. Across the senatorial district, there were long open secret balloting queues in my favour, reflecting your overwhelming mandate and commitment to our shared vision for Delta Central and the APC.

“This outcome is a clear endorsement of our mission to strengthen the party and deliver stronger representation at the national level. I am humbled by the trust you have placed in me, and inspired by the unity, discipline, and order displayed at every ward voting center.

You are a peace builder and outstanding lawmaker, Omo-Agege tells Evance Ivwurie at 58

“With this mandate, we will go on to contest the general election and win—not only securing the Senate seat for the APC, but also delivering the district for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the presidential election on the same day.

“In line with the directive of the National Organizing Secretary of the APC yesterday, we now await the official declaration by the National Headquarters in Abuja. I call on all members to remain calm, united, and focused as the party concludes the collation and announcement process.

“This victory belongs to every APC member in Delta Central who stood for fairness, party cohesion, and progress. Moving forward, I will redouble my efforts to serve our people, defend the interests of Delta Central in the Senate, and work for the success of the APC across Delta State and Nigeria.

“Thank you for making your voices heard and for standing firm at the ward level.”
