The Ogun state Deputy governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has officially picked up her nomination and expression of interest forms, taking a clear and decisive step in her aspiration to serve as Senator of Ogun West senatorial districts under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The entrance of Deputy Governor into the Ogun West senatorial race for the 2027 elections has stirred fresh political intrigues and permutations.

According to her; “This step marks the continuation of a journey already rooted in service, guided by clarity of purpose, and strengthened by the trust and support of Ogun indigenes, especially the Ogun West Senatorial district.”

Engr. Salako-Oyedele, who was tipped as Governor Dapo Abiodun’s successor before the All Progressives Congress, APC, adopted a consensus governorship candidate, had already obtained the Senate nomination forms, which was reportedly obtained on her behalf by a third party on April 30, 2026.

It was reported that political landscape of Ogun State has taken a definitive turn following the recent adoption of Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) as the consensus governorship candidate of the APC.

With the governorship slot settled, attention has now shifted to the vacuum he leaves behind in Ogun West Senatorial District.

The deputy governor has now officially entered the race to succeed Yayi in the Red Chamber, showing her Nomination and Expression of Interest forms have surfaced, signaling her intent to represent the people of Ogun West in the Senate.

Apart from Salako-Oyedele, about three other male aspirants have reportedly obtained forms. They include Senator Gbolahan Dada, Waliu Taiwo and Jimoh Ojugbele.

“Indeed, it is a growing ambition among top politicians in the region which made consensus arrangement difficult even though some sections are reportedly pushing for the deputy governor based on gender.”

It was reported that Ogun State hasn’t produced female Senator since 2011 when Senator Iyabo Obasanjo left the Red Chamber.

Following the precedent set by Senator Adeola’s emergence as consensus governorship candidate, political observers and APC stakeholders are hoping for a seamless transition in the senatorial race.

Sources within the party suggest that a consensus arrangement would maintain the unity currently enjoyed by the Ogun APC, avoiding internal friction as the 2026/2027 cycle approaches.
