The Association of Delta State Council of Traditional Chiefs has called on incumbent Senator of Delta North, Ned Nwoko and Senatorial aspirant and immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to make the development of the infrastructure of Delta North a priority, should any one of them emerge winner in the 2027 general election.

The group made the call in a statement signed by its chairman, Chief Azuka Hawkins Olomu, P.R.O. Chief Ojuma Lucky, Secretary, Chinedu Edem and made available to journalists in Asaba.

They lamented the deplorable state of infrastructure in the senatorial district, calling on whoever emerges winner in the race for the senate among all aspirants to make development of the Senatorial zone a priority.

Reaction to the expression of interest by the former governor Okowa to run for senate, the group stated; “We have just learnt of the expression of interest by our former governor, His Excellency, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to go back to the Senate to represent Delta North.

“Even though the incumbent, Senator Ned Nwoko has not formally declared his intent to go back, we members of the Association of Delta State Council of Traditional Chiefs wish to call on all aspirants to make the renewal of our urban centres a priority, when any one of them eventually emerges after the 2027 election.

” If you move across the local governments that make up the Delta North Senatorial District, you will be shocked to see the deplorable state of infrastructure, such as roads, among others.

“We commend the efforts of our governor, His Excellency, Rt. Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori in addressing some of these decays, but we expect any one who eventually gets elected to attract federal government interest in addressing issues of flooding and erosion ravaging most parts of the Senatorial District”

” This is why, as people closer to the grassroots, we intend to actively mobilise our people to come out and vote for candidates of their choice in the coming election in 2027.

“We will engage all aspirants and members of our respective communities, most of whom are registered voters and members of the respective political parties, to consciously choose candidates who have committed to transforming Delta North during their party primaries.

“We also hope to aggressively address the issue of voter apathy and invalid votes by ensuring that we leverage on our voter engagement platform to traverse the length and breadth of our rural communities to sensitize our people to come out and vote, as well as how to thumbprint the ballot paper, to minimise voter apathy and invalid votes due to wrong thumb printing.

“In addition, we are also planning to organise town hall meetings in our local dialects so that those in the rural communities can hear directly from each candidate, their plans for giving the Senatorial District the desired face lift.

The statement further appealed to eligible citizens yet to register, to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration at the Ward level to come out and register.

According to statement, “we are also appealing to those who are eligible to register to take advantage of the ongoing CVR now at the Ward level to come out and register.

“As we speak INEC at the respective LGAs has a rotation schedule of taking the CVR machines to at least one or two Wards per time and very shortly we shall be helping INEC to publicise the rotation schedule, so that our people will know the days INEC will bring the CVR machines to their respective ward”, the statement added.
