Few Days After a Spat with Remi Tinubu, Gov. Adeleke Dumps PDP and Rejects APC for Accord Party

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the Accord Party.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports Adeleke announced his decision at a stakeholders meeting in the Banquet Hall of the Government House, which was attended by Party national and state leaders.

This comes after an embarrassing incident with the First Lady, Remi Tinubu, in which she reportedly threatened to turn off the microphone against the governor when he broke into song during his speech at the Ooni of Ife’s 10th coronation anniversary, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

Remi Tinubu, who had just received her traditional title from the Ooni, was said to have approached the podium, gestured lightly to the governor, and whispered to him to continue with his statement.

However, amidst the mixed reaction and backlash that the development had elicited from Nigerians online, Governor Adeleke announced his defection from the PDP but not the APC on Tuesday.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke stated, “I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026.” This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders.

“Stakeholders and residents of Osun state are aware of why we are taking this important decision. We intend to pursue a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party to complete ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends which have been applauded at home and abroad.
