Isoko South Chair Inaugurates Basketball Court to Encourage Youths in Sports

The chairman of the Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, Friday Ovoke Warri has officially commissioned a newly built basketball court in Oleh to encouraged youths to put more of their energies in sporting activities.

The facility situated at the Isoko Central School, Oleh, headquarters of the council, was designed as part of Warri administration’s efforts in promoting youth development through sports and education.

According to the council boss, youths with sports talents can not go hungry as they can become self reliance saying Delta state has produced so many talents both national and international in sports thus making the State and the nation proud across the globe.

The initiative, led by the Oleh Progressive Minds Association (OPMA) under the leadership of Paul Ogba as president, seeks to provide underprivileged youth access to quality sports infrastructure, mentorship opportunities, and educational support.

The court was officially commissioned during a well-attended ceremony that featured training and match sessions as well as goodwill messages from Oleh community leaders and other partners.

Speaking at the event, Paul Ogba emphasised the symbolic and personal significance of the project, saying it was created for values of discipline, dignity and service in line with the association’s objectives.

Ogba noted that the initiative aligns with the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), particularly in promoting quality education, youth empowerment, and community development.

“Our motivation for this project is rooted in a simple yet significant objective: using sports as a tool for youth development. Today we take a decisive step towards bridging that gap and creating an environment where talents can be cultivated and excellence can thrive.

“This is more than a basketball court. It is a symbol of hope, a platform for young people to chase their dreams. The students and youths of Oleh, and Isoko in general, this facility is yours. We urge you to embrace it with passion, dedication, and a spirit of sportsmanship. Let it be a place where you not only refine your skills but also build character, confidence, and a mindset of excellence and make friends.” He added,

The council boss was accompanied by the leader of Isoko south legislative arm, Bright Abizire Olokor, Secretary to Isoko south local government, Zino Osuofa, special adviser to the chairman, Efe Okolosi-Ozoro, Onoriode Obeuwou councillor representing Oleh ward among others.
