Isoko South Boss Launches “Warri Agro Care Scheme” In Fulfillment Of 2023 Campaign Promises

Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state, Friday Ovoke Warri, has launched the “Warri Agro Care Scheme” with a focus on cassava plantation in the area as part of his administration’s ‘Warri For Your Worries’ campaign and efforts to enhance food production and other social amenities within the council area.

Inaugurating the scheme, Warri stated that economic expansion through infrastructure and agro-business is an integral component of the ‘Warri For Your Worries’ campaign slogan, designed to complement the M.O.R.E agenda of the state Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, aimed at ensuring abundant food production for all in the state.

According to the council chairman, “Notably, the Isoko people are renowned for their farming prowess, particularly in cassava production. It was not challenging for an Isoko child to identify cassava leaf, given the prevalence of farms in the area. The council’s programme training and support for selected Isoko South farmers aim to enhance productivity, not merely for personal consumption, but as a means of sustainable livelihood.

“During our campaign, we promised that agriculturists would be part of our focus; we are keeping our word. Isoko is renowned for farming. As a matter of fact, no true son or daughter of Isoko can fail to identify a cassava leaf. Let’s identify farming as a key step of sustainability. Take this training seriously. We’re ready to partner with ASCN network for the general good of Isoko South. Warri, thereafter, declared the training open, adding that his administration has already keyed into pepper farming as a pilot scheme project to make a food surplus for the people of the local government area.”.

Earlier, during a courtesy visit on the council boss in his office in Oleh, by the Association of Cassava Seed Entrepreneurs Network, (ASCN) led by its President, Mrs Eboka, expressed gratitude to the chairman for investing time in Isoko South agricultural sector, noting that, with the initiative, Isoko South would not be lagging behind in food sufficiency but rather gain a comparative advantage in all areas of agricultural production, particularly in cassava farming.

“Isoko are great farmers. Our network doesn’t end with us; we reach everyone, from the city to the rural area. We ensure that our rural farmers receive government grants and provide training where necessary to enable them to recognise the joys of being a farmer. We have seeds that you’ll plant that will guarantee your success; we know that Isoko South is a food basket.” the Association president stated.

In his appreciation message, the Supervising Councillor for Agriculture, Abide Good luck, thanked ASCN for coming to Isoko South to train rural farmers on cassava production and other farming awareness.
