Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, has renewed call for the completion of two critical dam projects in Delta State—the Ogwashi-Uku Dam and the Amukpe Dam.

Nwoko made the call when he recently hosted Mr. Femi Adekanbi, the Managing Director of the Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA), alongside other members of the Authority’s leadership team, at his residence in Abuja.

The meeting focused on accelerating regional development through sustainable water resource management, agricultural initiatives, and infrastructural projects within areas served by BORBDA, which include Delta North, Edo, Ondo, and Ekiti States.

During the discussions, Senator Nwoko highlighted two critical dam projects in Delta State—the Ogwashi-Uku Dam and the Amukpe Dam. He explained that these dams, when completed, will have a transformative impact on the region. The Ogwashi-Uku Dam, he noted, will provide vital water resources to over 60 communities in the senatorial district, boosting agriculture and water supply. Similarly, the Amukpe Dam will play a pivotal role in supporting irrigation and improving access to clean water for nearby communities, contributing significantly to socio-economic development.

Senator Nwoko commended the Benin-Owena Development Authority under the leadership of Mr. Adekanbi for their ongoing efforts and stressed the need for timely completion of these projects. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the dams are adequately funded and executed to meet the needs of the people.

Mr. Femi Adekanbi expressed gratitude for Senator Nwoko’s dedication to the development of Delta North. He provided updates on the progress of both dams and other ongoing projects, pledging that the Authority would prioritize their completion.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to collaboration in delivering impactful projects that will benefit Delta State and other areas within the Benin-Owena River Basin.
