Immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, has dismissed allegation making the round on social media that he was under investigation over fraudulent diversion of constituency projects.

Elumelu, in a statement by his media office, on Wednesday, described the allegation as completely false, criminally libelous; a sponsored fabrication done in bad faith and deliberately aimed to mislead the unsuspecting public and tarnish the unblemished reputation.

The statement reads in full; “The attention of the Ndudi Elumelu Media Office has been drawn to a misleading report in a section of the social media falsely claiming that the immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu OON is under investigation over allegations of fraudulent diversion of constituency projects.

This report is completely false, criminally libelous; a sponsored fabrication done in bad faith and deliberately aimed to mislead the unsuspecting public and tarnish the unblemished reputation of Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu conscientiously built over decades of service with unquestionable integrity.

Ordinarily, we would not have responded to such fabricated report but for the interest of massive supporters and constituents, we set the record straight and state categorically that Rt. Hon Ndudi Elumelu is not under any investigation for any case of fraud related to the delivery of constituency projects.

For emphasis, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu never diverted any Constituency project or conducted himself in any fraudulent manner whatsoever to warrant such investigation as reported.

It is rather on record that Rt. Hon Elumelu still ranks as one of the most prolific in the execution of constituency projects as a member of House of Representatives wherein he delivered key infrastructural and human capital development projects including strategic roads, drainages, electricity projects, hospitals, schools, vocational centers, ICT centers, town halls and other projects in the 58 communities that make up Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency. All the projects were transparently executed and delivered to the admiration of all.

It is therefore offensive, distasteful and borders on deliberate character assassination for anybody to falsely claim that there was a diversion of constituency project by Rt. Hon. Elumelu.

It is instructive to point to the scandalous absence of a byline and reliance on “sources” which not only validate the publication as not only false but also clandestinely sponsored for malicious reasons. However, we want the sponsors of the said malicious article to know that they are only chasing shadows.

Rt. Hon Elumelu has already informed his lawyers and relevant agencies including the Directorate of State Services, (DSS) to activate legitimate processes for redress.

Nevertheless, this Office counsels the media to always adhere to the ethics of professionalism by cross-checking all materials before going to press”.
