JUST IN: NNPCL, Dangote Refinery Clash Over ‘N898 Per Litre Petrol Price’

Published

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Dangote Refinery have not been able to find a ground to reconcile the controversy surrounding the sale of refined Petroleum products by the new refinery.

This is coming as NNPCL, on Sunday claimed that Dangote Refinery sold petrol at N898 per litre, an assertion that was immediately debunked by Dangote Refinery, describing it as misleading.

TheCable quoted Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the national oil company, Olufemi Soneye as disclosing the new price regime by the Dangote refinery.

But Dangote Petroleum Refinery says the claim by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited that the refiner sold petrol at N898 per litre is misleading.

In a statement on Sunday by Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Brand and Communications Officer of Dangote Refinery described the statement by NNPC as “mischievous”.

Chiejina urged members of the public to disregard the statement and wait for a formal announcement of pricing.

He also disclosed that their products were sold to NNPCL in dollars, assuring that this would make petrol available in every local government in the country.

“Our attention has been drawn to a statement attributed to NNPCL spokesperson, Mr Olufemi Soneye, that we sell PMS at N898 per litre to the NNPCL.

“This statement is both misleading and mischievous, deliberately aimed at undermining the milestone achievement recorded today, Sunday, September 15, 2024, towards addressing energy insufficiency and insecurity, which has bedevilled the economy in the past 50 years.

“We urge Nigerians to disregard this malicious statement and await a formal announcement on the pricing…

“It should also be noted that we sold the products to NNPCL in dollars with a lot of savings against what they are currently importing.

“With this action, there will be petrol in every local government area of the country regardless of their remote nature.

“We assure Nigerians of availability of quality petroleum products and putting an end to the endemic fuel scarcity in the country”, the statement reads.
