House Of Reps Members Cut Salaries By 50% For Six Months Amid Economic Hardship

The Nigerian House of Representatives has unanimously agreed to reduce their salaries by 50% for the next six months in response to the country’s economic difficulties.

The decision was made during plenary session on Thursday, following a motion sponsored by Ibrahim Isiaka from Ogun state.

Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu proposed the amendment, stating that it was a necessary sacrifice for the lawmakers to make.

“We earn N500,000 monthly, and cutting it by 50% is a worthy sacrifice for the next six months,” Kalu said.

However, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas corrected him, pointing out that the lawmakers’ monthly salaries are actually N600,000.
