40-year-old ‘Mentally Unstable Man’, Four Others Arrested For ‘Armed Robbery’ In Delta
Usman Bello, a 40-year-old male, who disguised himself as a mentally unstable person, has been arrested by police in Delta State, with a locally made fabricated Beretta pistol, in an uncompleted building along Issele-Asagba Express Way.
The police Command’s RRS operatives apprehended the suspect on Friday 3, May, 2024 while acting on credible information that some suspected robbers were sighted in an uncompleted building along Issele-Asagba Express Way.
State Police spokesman, SP Bright Edafe who confirmed this to newsmen in Warri, on Friday, said that two suspects, Ameachi Micheal and Ogochukwu Ogbode who target shops and houses at night were also apprehended along DLA road, Asaba.
The suspects, allegedly loot the shops and usually transport the stolen items to Port-Harcourt to sell.
According to Edafe, on Tuesday 4, June, at about 1300 hrs, the Area commander Asaba acting on intelligence report on the activities of some suspects who come from across the Niger to Asaba at night to break and loot shops of their targeted victims.
The Area commander, acting on the intelligence, he said, immediately deployed undercover operatives who embarked on a discreet operation which eventually paid off when the duo of one Ameachi Micheal, 42 yrs of Wuje Street Port Harcourt and Ogochukwu Ogbode, age 38 yrs of Aronomen Enugu were arrested along DLA road, Asaba.
Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that after breaking and looting the shops of their victims, they usually carried their loot to Port-Harcourt to sell.
Police spokesman said that investigation and efforts to arrest the receivers of the stolen items are ongoing.
In a related development, acting on credible intelligence, the special squad deployed to Ughelli by Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, on Sunday 5, May, 2024, apprehended three suspected armed robbers in Sapele and recovered their weapons, including one Beretta pistol and one locally made cut-to-size gun.
Led by ASP Julius Robinson, the team raided Sapele Town, where they arrested the gang leader, Blessing Atima, 23, of Jesse Community in Ethiope West LGA of the State along with Destiny Okpako, 19, of Oviri-Okpe Community in Okpe LGA of the State as well as 20 years old Wisdom Akpohirowho, also of Jesse Community in Ethiope West LGA.
The suspects, who reside in Sapele, were found in possession of weapons, including three cutlasses, phones, and ATM cards belonging to victims.
After their arrest, some of their victims identified them and their valuables recovered from them, police said.
Investigators, while interrogating the suspects discovered that they have so far taken part in six of the armed robbery operations in Sapele.
The suspects are in custody, and the investigation is ongoing, Edafe added.
