How Delta Polytechnic’s Accountant Was Nabbed With Illegal Firearm

The police in Delta state, have arrested the 52-year-old accountant of the Delta State Polytechnic Oghara, Delta State, Chief Oviri Onorigho, for allegedly being in possession of illegal Baretta Pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com gathers that the suspect was arrested at his residence in Oghara town, Ethiope West LGA, after a search warrant.

It was learnt that the Commissioner of Police special team deployed to Ughelli led by ASP Julius Robinson had on May 24, at about 1130hrs, acting on intelligence, stormed his residence where he was picked up with the illegal firearm.

The suspect, allegedly a member of the Aiye confraternity, claimed he bought the gun from one Morrison (at large) for two hundred and fifty thousand naira for protection.

State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe who disclosed this, in a statement, said that the suspect is in custody for further investigation.

The arrest is coming on the heel of the arrest of two suspected armed robbers, Gift Newworld and Izobo Okwe, in Ekpan community after a resident reported a stolen pumping machine on May 18, 2024.

A resident had reported at the station that he sighted a certain young man dressed in a black cloth carrying a black bag inside their compound, prompting him to raised the alarm which made the suspect escape but they later noticed that their pumping machine was stolen by the suspect.

However, police operatives alongside members of the community, later arrested one gift Newworld who led the police after pain taking Interrogation and investigation to his hideout in Ekpan where the pumping machine, one locally made cut-to-size double barrel gun, and three live cartridges were recovered.

Edafe said that further investigation led to the arrest of his gang member Izobo Okwe of Ekpan who later confessed to being the owner of the gun and a member of the gang.

Similarly, a stolen diesel truck was intercepted along the Benin-Asaba Expressway, and one suspect, Emeka Okorie, was arrested while two others escaped.

Acting on a tip-off, the police while performing stop and search duty along Benin-Asaba Expressway intercepted the diesel truck with registration NO: ENU 564 ZU, loaded with 840 crates of life Lager Beer.

The truck, according to Police image maker was driven on May 15, by one Collins Ogbodo Ude, a driver with Lumie Haulage Breweries Company, Enugu.

According to him, the truck was stolen from where it was parked at Umuasea Bus Stop in Udi Local Government Area Enugu State.

With the aid of technically driven intelligence, the truck was located in Delta State and intercepted by operatives of the ‘B’ division.

One male suspect Emeka Okorie aged 32yrs from Imo state was arrested while two other suspects escaped, but efforts to arrest the fleeing suspect are ongoing, Edafe said.

The PPRO said that upon search of the truck, a locally made cut-to-size double barrel pistol and four live cartridges were recovered from it.
