Delta Assembly Suspends APC Lawmaker, Matthew Omonade Over Alleged Gross Misconduct
The Delta State House of Assembly has suspended Hon. Matthew Omonade, representing Ughelli North 1 Constituency, for 14 legislative days due to alleged gross misconduct.
BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) gathers that the House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon.Emomotimi Guwor announced the lawmaker’s suspension during Tuesday’s plenary session.
Consequently, Hon. Omonade (Eqs.) was escorted out of the chamber and ordered to hand over all government properties, including his official vehicle.
The House, however constituted a six-man ad-hoc committee, headed by the Majority Leader Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, to investigate the alleged misconduct and report to the house within one week.
Meanwhile, the assembly has passed the Delta State Administration of Criminal Justice Amendment Bill, 2024, and the Delta State Administration of Civil Justice Amendment Bill, 2024, after a unanimous voice vote.
The bills aim to amend the transition period from 12 to 24 months, enabling proper implementation.
The speaker commended the lawmakers for the speedy passage and expressed optimism about the bills’ full implementation.
The assembly adjourned plenary until Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
