Student Loan Scheme To Kick Off In September – HoRs Member, Laguda

The students’ loan scheme is set to kick off in September, the member representing Surulere 1 Federal Constituency, Lagos State and Chairman, House Committee on Federal Polytechnics and Higher Technical Education, Hon. Fuad Kayode Laguda, has said.

Hon. Laguda stated this in Orogun, Ughelli North local government area of Delta State, on Saturday while responding to questions from journalists during the maiden matriculation ceremony of Federal Polytechnic, Orogun.

Fielding questions from a journalist who had asked to know what was stalling the commencement of the laudable initiative, the lawmaker said that the scheme is not being stalled and things are already ongoing.

He said: “It is not being stalled and there is nothing affecting it. It is going to kick off in September this year.

“You can’t just start just like that. They have to put things together and things are already ongoing about it.”

Hon. Laguda who represented the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen at the event, however commended the institution for its smooth takeoff and advised them not to rest on their laurels.

He said that the institution was granted approval in 2022, and faculties are already approved, with others to follow in due time.

He said: “They have started well. The approval for this institution was granted in 2022 by the last regime and you are coming here barely two years after and you won’t come into this institution and say you are not seeing something that is magnificent. The institution already has faculties approved and the others will get approved in good time.”

Hon. Laguda encouraged the institution to take it beyond what they have started with, acknowledging their good work so far, saying “they should take it beyond what they have started with; but I can testify today that they are doing well.”
