He was the first Bishop of Benin Diocese of Anglican Church. It was said his real name was Oboyovwemu but his father gave him a nick name of Oguori due to the fact he was plumly as a well fed infant.
At school, his teacher who was not Urhobo couldn’t write the correct name of Oguori and corrupted the name to ‘Agoir/Agori’. His father,Iwe was a native of Okuama Town in Ewu Kingdom/Clan of Ughelli South LGA in present Delta state.
His mother,Emedaka was from Agadabri Town of Ewu Kingdom of Ughelli South LGA. Agori-Iwe was a great evangelist of the Christian faith in Edo and Delta formerly known as Midwest/Bendel.
