‘You Lied, NLC President Ajaero Was Brutalised, Leg, Hand Broken By Police’ — NLC Spokesman

Head of Information and Publicity, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, headquarters, Comrade Benson Upah, has said that Comrade Joe Ajaero was attacked and brutalized by police officers in Owerri, Imo state capital contrary to claims by the Police Command that he was near being lynched by mobs and was taken into protective custody.

The Imo State Police Command, has denied multiple reports that the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, was arrested by police officers in Owerri, the state capital. Comrade Upah disclosed that the NLC President was actually brutalized and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri with his legs, hands broken and right eye completely shut.

He described what happened to Ajaero as an act of abduction that degenerated into attempted murder.

He said that contact has been made with Congress President, Ajaero, Wednesday on evening around 5:30Pm at the Police Hospital in Owerri from where he was taken to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri where he is receiving medical attention.

“Thoroughly brutalized, his right eye at the time of contact was completely shut.”

He further said, “Ajaero, who said little stated that immediately after his arrest, he was beaten up and blindfolded and taken to an unknown destination where more brutalisation took place, sometimes with bottles.

“His phones, money and other personal effects were taken off him and have not been returned to him”, News Express quoted the NLC spokesman as saying.
