The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has been summoned by the House of Representatives following accusations of sabotage made by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, a private security firm.

Tantita said that it was hired by NNPC to secure pipelines but was denied access to them.

The House Adhoc Committee, which is investigating crude oil theft in Nigeria, expressed dissatisfaction with NNPC’s failure to attend a previous invitation.

As a result, the committee has given NNPC and other important stakeholders who did not attend the initial session another opportunity to appear before them.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) said crude oil valued at over N16 trillion has been stolen in the country since 2009.

NEITI Executive Secretary, Ogbonnaya Orji, stated this at an investigative hearing of the House, alleging that culprits include high-profile members of the society, security agencies, and host communities.
