Despite Appeal Court declaration as unconstitutional section 84(12) of the Electoral Act, 2022 which forbids political appointees from participating in the political parties primary, President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, directed that all members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) running for elective offices to submit their letters of resignation on or before Monday the 16th of May, 2022.

BIGPENNGR reports that the three-member panel of judges had early on Wednesday declared that the provision violates the rights of section of people thus enabling the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and others with political ambition to go through the party’s primaries without resigning.

But the Minister of information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said the President at the Wednesday Federal Executive Council meeting, directed resignation of Ministers with political ambition.

Lai, however, said that if there are any amendments or additions to this directive they would be made shortly.

According to the Minister, the directive might involve political appointees, if the need arises.

He added that the directive excludes the Vice President because he is an elected member of the cabinet.
