Uneasy calm have enveloped Sapele town, Delta State, after unknown gunmen, on Friday night, shot dead a popular vigilante group commander.

BIGPENNGR reports that the deceased identified as Victor Lucky was killed at about 7:pm on Friday evening, at the popular Okpe junction in Sapele by Ak-47 wielding assailants who drove a tinted sport utility vehicle.
Witness said, he was shot few meters away from a police and army check point by the assailants numbering about five.
He was ambushed and shot dead at close range few minutes after he left the venue of the wake keep of the mother of a former Commissioner for Youth, Chief Omolubi Newuwumi, in the state.
The unfortunate incident, which is causing serious tension in the town, had paralyzed commercial activities through out yesterday as shops and businesses hurriedly closed.
Many residents resorted to long distance trekking to reach their destination as vehicular movement were brought to a halt for hours.
Some residents who spoke anonymously, described the deceased ‘as a hero and a crusader’, saying he was the reason cultism was brought to it barest minimum in the town.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Aliu, who confirmed the unfortunate incident, said the Police has arrested three persons in connections with the murder and investigation is on going.
He said that those arrested are already making useful information about the incident and ensured that the Command will get the assailants apprehended very soon.
He said,”yes, am aware of the killing of a Vigilante Commander in Sapele, and as I speak with you, three suspects had been arrested in connection to the unfortunate incident and they are giving useful information to the police.
“I have also directed that the case and suspects be send straight to the Command headquarter for further discreet investigation and I want to assure you that very soon, the assailants will be brought to book.”
