MTN Network appears to have crashed as over 77 million users of the mobile network are currently experiencing service outage.

BIGPENNGR reports that the development is coming few days after social media giants, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp experienced similar network glitches globally for hours.

Many users of the South Africa network provider had complained on Saturday of being unable to connect through MTN services since 2:00pm as “emergency calls only” showed on the screens of MTN users.

“I have been unable to make calls, use data and USSD for bank transaction since afternoon, one user complained, saying “The outage began around 2:00pm with “emergency calls only” displayed on the screen of my MTN line”.

Some of the users, who also subscribed to other telecommunication service providers, have since switched over in the interim to link up with friends and family.

Some MTN users have also gone on social media to lament their frustration.

Meanwhile, MTN Nigeria on its official Facebook page said, “Some of our customers are having difficulty connecting to the network today. We’re looking into this and are truly sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

MTN is the largest telecommunication provider in Nigeria with 77.35 million subscribers, according to latest industry statistics from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
