‘I Wish Olu Stool Issue Is Resolved With Ologbotsere’ – Sagay

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), the Olufusi of Warri Kingdom has called for a peaceful resolution of the crisis that ensued on the emergence of Prince Tsola Emiko as the Olu-designate of Warri.
Sagay who is the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) said that he wished there will be a peaceful resolution with Ologbotsere for Emiko to be fully confirm as Olu-elect being the choice of the people as the new Olu of Warri, according to report in Daily Independent.
“Frankly, I believe Tsola Emiko is the best choice for now. I was waiting for them to resolve this problem for him to be declared as the Olu-elect for everybody without the Ologbotsere and the others who are not in support of his choice”.
“Certainly, he is the choice of the people and he is to be congratulated. My hope is that there will be a peaceful resolution which will fully confirm his emergence as Olu-elect of Warri” Sagay said.
Head of the Olu’s Advisory Council and Ologbotsere of Warri, Chief Ayiri Emami had rejected Emiko’s choice, declaring it illegal.
He also quoted an edict that successor to the Olu of Warri throne must be one whose mother is either from Itsekiri or Benin Kingdom.
BIGPENNGR reported that trouble started after the Head of the Royal Family in the kingdom, Chief Emmanuel Okotie-Eboh had announced the suspension of the Ologbotsere, saying he has been replaced with the Iyatsere, Chief Johnson Atserunleghe.
After the purported suspension of Emami, the Iyatsere had convened a National Assembly of the Itsekiri people at Ode-Itsekiri and announced the demise of late Olu, Ogiame Ikenwoli and subsequent selection of Shola Emiko as Olu-designate without the concert of the Ologbotsere as tradition demands.
However, in a swift response to purported suspension of Ologbotsere, the sons of the last three Olus (Otolus) denounced the purported suspension of the Ologbotsere, describing the announcement of the Iyatsere as Ologbotsere as a joke that cannot stand.
“The purported suspension of the Ologbotsere and the appointment of the Iyatsere to act in his place is rather ridiculous. The conferment of the chieftaincy title on anybody in the Iwere (Itsekiri) land is the sole prerogative of the Olu of Warri.
“You cannot give away what you do not have. Therefore, the purported suspension is null and void.”
