Delta Police Arrests Suspect Who Reportedly Killed Vigilante Member, Recovered Snatched Jeep

The Police command in Delta State on Wednesday said it arrested one suspect in connection to the reported murder of a 36 years old Onajite Okolejo, a member of Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) Zone 12 Hausa Quarters Warri, the commercial nerve centre of the state.

Police spokesman in the state, DSP Edafe Bright disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Asaba, the state capital.

He said that the suspect was tracked down following the directives of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali to officers and men of “A” Division Warri to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book.

Giving a graphic details of how the suspect was arrested, the acting police image maker disclosed “On the 4/4/2021 at about 1908hrs, the chairman of a Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) of Zone 12 Hausa Quarters Warri reported that on the same date at about 0100hrs, he received a phone call from one Onajite Okolejo ‘m’ aged 36yrs a VGN member working under the unit that he was being attacked by some armed gang.

“The DPO ‘A’ Division Warri, CSP T.Y Mammud mobilized patrol team immediately to the scene and rescued the victim to the hospital, while in the hospital, the boy made a dying declaration that one of the suspect that attacked and shot him was a boy called Sahlisu ‘m’ surname unknown AKA Black Arrow; and he is the biological Son of Etsu Nupe of Hausa Quarters Warri.

“The Commissioner of police Delta state CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, PSC+ mandated that the Divisional of Police must do everything possible to see that these suspects are arrested and brought to book.

Continuing, he said, “The DPO A Division Warri CSP T.Y Mammud in compliance with the CP’S directive, moved into action, expanded his tentacles, through intelligence gathering and discreet investigation tracked and arrested one Abdulrazaq Mohammed ‘m’ age 25years who confessed to be among the gang that murdered the victim.

He further disclosed that the account of the first arrested suspect, Mohammed also corroborated what the deceased VGN Member said, that it was him and Etsu Nupe’s son Sahlisu ‘m’ surname unknown AKA Black Arrow; that attacked and shot the deceased.

He added however that effort is ongoing to arresting the fleeing suspect, urging members of the public to give all information that will lead to the arrest of the other suspect.

DSP Bright disclosed the swift moves to get the suspect was “in compliance with the Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, FCIA, PSC+ Directives, that all tactical commanders must be on their toes by been proactive to see that criminals that are terrorizing the state are arrested, and brought to book.

Similarly, he said that based on intelligence gathered that a robbery syndicate is planning to attack and rob unsuspecting customers and dispossess them of their valuables and money at Ughelli First bank, on the 7/4/2021 at about 2436hrs, the Commander Eagle-Net Special Squad, SP. Dimka Usman mobilized his men of Eagle net special squad led by DSP. Yunusa Danyaya on intensive stop and search operation in a bid to prevent such ugly situation from occurring.

“While on the stop and search duty, one of a notorious ring leader Joshua Ogheneovo ‘m’ 32yrs old of Uduphori town Patani LGA, was intercepted and on the spot search was carried out on him, Exhibits recovered include one (1) double barrel automatic pump action gun with twenty-five (25) rounds of live cartridges, one Toyota Highlander Jeep ash colour with Reg. No. DSZ 348 KM and one Bontel handset.

“The suspect confessed that the said Highlander Jeep was snatched from the owner on gun point.

“Effort is ongoing for the possible arrest of the remaining gang members and in no time, they will be brought to book”.
