The Academic Staff Union of Universities, on Saturday, says it has began elaborate consultation with its members across 70 branches to either call-off the strike or not.

BIGPENNGR.COM reports this is coming a day after the Federal Government succumbed to ASUU demands, offering an cumulative N65 billion to enable ASUU to address earned academic allowances and revitalisation of universities.
Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, had disclosed the mouth-watering offer on Friday after meeting with leadership of striking lecturers in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
However, ASUU in a tweet on its official Twitter Account, Official__ASUU @ASUUNGR, on Saturday night said that the strike was yet to be call off.
According to ASUU, “We Are Still Consulting, We Get Back To Federal Government On Friday saying “all the branches, which are over 70, will participate in the decision to either call – off the strike or not.

ASUU President, Prof Ogunyemi said “We are reporting back to the government on Friday. That is when the consultation will end.”
The Federal Government yesterday (Friday) agreed to ASUU’s demand to pay their members’ salary arrears from February to June through the old salary payment platform, pending when the university lecturers will complete the development of its own payment platform- (UTAS).
