Delta ex-Council Chairman, Ibori’s Adviser, Akporayen, Dies At 70

A former chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State and one-time Special Adviser to ex-governor James Ibori, Rev. Matthew Akporayen, is dead.

Akporayen who hails from Uduvwoakpor quarters in Okwagbe Water Side, Ughelli South Local Government Area died after a protracted illness.

He died Wednesday morning around 1:am at the age of 70, a family relative confirmed.

“He passed away early hours of Wednesday morning around 1:am. He started his journalism career as a reporter with Observer.

“He venture into politics under the mentorship of late sir Harrison Jefia and late Samuel Ogbemudia of the then NPN.

“He later got elected under PDP as the Executive Chairman of Ughelli South and later served as the Special Adviser to Religious Affairs under governor James Ibori”.

Akporayen, was a journalist by profession and former weekend Editor of the Observer Newspaper before Delta State was created out of the defunct Bendel State.
