Police Reportedly Gun Down Two Suspects, Rescues Abducted Woman In Delta

The abducted female trader seized in Ughelli town, Delta state on Saturday, Mrs. Akpezi Okpidi, has regained her freedom.

The woman, was reportedly rescued by the police about 6:50 pm after a gun battle with her captors at an undisclosed riverine area, near Burutu council area of the state.

A family source, who preferred anonymity, disclosed that the hoodlums who abducted the women were tracked to Bayelsa state by security operatives.

BIGPEN learnt that two of the suspects were arrested in Bayelsa but later died from gunshot wounds following a confrontation with the police.

Our source also disclosed that the other suspect who was with the woman, escaped with the victim but may have abandoned her when he realise the police were close at him.

“No ransom was paid to effect her release”, the source disclosed.

The source said that a GLK Benz used for the operation by the suspects was snatched at gunpoint from a victim and was also recovered.

Recalls that the woman was seized from her Honda car while on her way to her shop around Otovwodo area of Ughelli town.

The 33 years old victim was reportedly waylaid by hoodlums who drove a black tinted GLK Benz along the Ughelli Township Stadium axis of the community.

“She was heading to her shop when the hoodlums allegedly waylaid and forcefully took her to an unknown location”, a source said.

The source said that no gunshot was fired by the hoodlums who fled the scene with their victim through the Ughelli-Patani Expressway.

State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who earlier confirmed the incident, was not immediately available to confirm the rescue operation as of the time of filing this report.
