Ibrahim Magu, the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has been let off the hook after 9 days of intense interrogation from a panel comprises of a top jury and high-powered security chiefs.

Magu, who has been in police custody after his arrest on July 6, following allegation of fraud and wrongdoing being investigated by a presidential panel led by a former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, was released Wednesday evening.

His release is coming few hours after his counsel, Tosin Ojaomo, was directed by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to direct the request for his client’s bail to the Presidential panel investigating his activities in office.

The IG, according to a reply to the bail application, had asked Ojaomo to channeled his request to the panel since the police were not investigating Magu.

The Police boss also denied that Magu was detained by police authority, saying that the panel headed by a former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami was the one holding the suspended EFCC’s chairman.

The letter with reference CB:7000/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.489/171 titled, ‘RE: Application for bail,’ was signed by the Principal Staff Officer to the IG, DCP Idowu Owohunwa.
