UPDATED: BREAKING: Amaechi’s CSO, Iwelu ‘Electrocuted’ While Taking Shower In Hotel

Tony Iwelu, the Chief Security Officer of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has died of ‘electrocution’ while taking a bath in a hotel shower in Kaduna.

Multiple sources claimed that Iwelu, an officer of the Department of State Service (DSS) was found unconscious after collapsing from a suspected electric stock from a faulty shower rose at his hotel room in Kaduna.

He reportedly died at 10:30am Monday morning at Stone Edge Hotel in Kaduna, sources said.

This is coming barely a day after reports say Amaechi was attacked on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line. The Minister, though refuted the report, saying it was a “fake news” that was “completely concocted”.

The death of the CSO, however coincide with claims by the co-convener of #BringBackOurGirls Campaign, Aisha Yesufu who claimed that indeed Amaechi was attacked.

According to Yesufu, “Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, you should be ashamed of yourself. My sister, my brother and my sister-in-law were on that train. When your convoy scattered and you fled like a newborn mouse whom water have been poured on, it was witnessed! Governance is not by lies and propaganda!

“So Amaechi thought he had security, and he was immune to the insecurity that affects the rest of us.

“Even the President is not secure. What he has is illusion of security. The more these attacks happen, the more likely we are going to be victims.”

But multiple sources said that Iwelu was electrocuted. “The shower rose electrocuted Tony and triggered a heart attack immediately. He died on the spot. The incident has left the Minister devastated.”

Amaechi’s official photographer, Israel Ibeleme, confirmed the report in a post on his Facebook page.

As at the time of filling this report for publication, Amaechi media department is yet to issue an official statement on the death of Iwelu (PSIO), who served as Amaechi’s CSO since he was Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and then Governor of Rivers State.

But one of the aides of the minister who confirmed the story to BIGPEN NIGERIA, said the minister was in total shock and in deep grief over the loss of his CSO.

Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside says Mr. Tony Iwelu’s death is a painful experience in recent times. “One of the most painful experience in recent times. How else can we explain that life is like a vapour? “Tony was a wonderful person. May Tony’s soul Rest in Peace,” Dakuku said, according to reports sourced.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transport, Saibu Zakari, on his part has prayed for the repose of Mr. Iwelu’s soul. Zakari said: “May Tony’s soul rest in perfect peace. We really lost a very good and hardworking friend. I called Tony two times at 7.26am and 7.30 am yesterday but no response. That indeed was not Tony’s character. “May his soul rest in perfect peace.”, according a report

The minister’s aide also dismissed news making the rounds that the death of Iwelu is connected to the refuted report that the minister was attacked by bandits while in a train transit in Kaduna.

“It is impossible for the minister to have been attacked by anyone without a shoot out. He is always in company of armed security operatives. The story is a fabrication by liars.”, he added.
