Developing: INEC Confirms Boat Mishap In Delta, Says None Of Its Staff ‘Missing’

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Resident Electoral Commission (REC) in charge of Delta State, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe says none of its staff and ad-hoc Staff were involved in the reported boat mishap in Warri North Local Government Area.

BIGPEN ONLINE learnt that boat accident occurred last Saturday during the governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Report says no fewer than 12 persons including INEC staff are reportedly missing as at Sunday morning.

“The incident happened when the victims were returning to Koko, the headquarters of Warri North after the end of the exercise on Saturday, our source disclosed.

“INEC ad-hoc staff, security personnel and electoral materials for the elections when the incident happened.

“About 20 people were on board the il-fated boat that capsized around Ebrohimi community creek in Warri North Local Government Area of the state, our source added.

The source was however silent on the casualty level, stating that “rescue operations have since commenced”.

But confirming the accident, Omorogbe said both staff and ad-hoc workers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were not involved in the mishap.

“I understand that my staff members are not involved, they were all safe and the ad-hoc staff were safe. The actual details have got to me right now. And I don’t think the mishap affected the materials because it happened later in the day, from what I know,” he said.
