Ahead Saturday’s governorship and State Assembly elections in Delta State, the local chapter of Organized labour in Delta State on Monday agreed on Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa second term bid.

They hinged their position on  the success of his administration to the cooperation and support of the labour unions in the state.

Speaking at a meeting between the Governor and leaders and members of organized labour in the  state, the state Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress [NLC]  Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe  said that “Governor Okowa has been on the vanguard of everything that[ promotes the welfare of workers from the payment of salary arrears to the implementation of the new minimum wages which is why Delta State National Labour Congress has openly come out to endorse him for a second term”

He commended Governor Okowa for putting the needs of workers on the front burner describing the relationship between  state government and labour as “a success story”.

Governor Okowa who thanked organized labour for their support and cooperation for the success of his administration described the partnership with organized labour as cordial, respectful and beneficial to Deltans and the state.

“I must thank the unions, all our workers for the support and understanding we received ;with the prayers and the support of the workforce, Deltans and leaders across the state we were able to consolidate on the promises that we made as a government” he said.

Senator Okowa while appreciating Deltans for the support his administration received during his tenure, called for a peaceful gubernatorial election saying “the support i have been receiving means a lot to me; it makes me believe that we are on the right path it makes me believe that in coming back for second tenure that i have the  backing of the people and that it is very encouraging. For our state to be taken to greater heights every hand  must be on deck because i cannot do it alone; our governance is not all about elections, it is about working with all Deltans directly or indirectly so we need to look beyond the elections and do not approach it as a do or die affair rather let us vote peacefully for no election is worth the loss of lives”.

He urged Deltans and organized labour to continue to support government, create peaceful environment for development to thrive in the state.
