There is fear that the factional state Congress of the All Progressive Congress, APC billed to hold at College of Education (Technical), Asaba, the Delta state capital today, (Monday) would be scuttled, BigPen Online can report.

Reports say effort by the organisers to secure police protection had failed since Sunday night, thus fueling speculations that ‘thugs’ have been mobilized to invade the venue.

Specifically, sources alleged that the Erue-Ogboru-Omo-Agege tendencies of the party had plotted to disrupt the event after holding one over the weekend.

Multiple sources alleged that efforts by APC leader, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor to secure police protection from the Delta state Police Command had failed since the police commissioner, Mr. Muhammad Mustafa had failed to respond to telephone calls to his mobile phone.

The source claimed that Erue-Ogboru-Omo-Agege tendencies were also trying to block Emerhor from using federal might to secure police protection for the rescheduled factional Congress.

Sources also claimed that the Erue-Ogboru-Omo-Agege faction had also allegedly plotted to arrest some APC chieftains at the Congress venue if it eventually hold as planned.

Our source disclosed that they were planning to arrest Chief Jaro Egbo, who is a House of Assembly aspirant and aide to NDDC Executive Director of Projects, Engr. Samuel Adjogbe in connection to the burning down of Delta state Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) office in Ughelli during the last local government elections in the state.

APC chieftains in the faction of Emerhor like ex-Delta Speaker Rt Hon Victor Ochei, Prof. Pat Utomi, Chief Hyacinth Enuha, Hon Cairo Ojougboh and other prominent leaders of the party have also entertained fear of possible disruption of the Congress, the source claimed.

It was not clear however if the organisers of today’s Congress would defy the alleged security threats to the event and go ahead to hold their own factional Congress which they said would be conducted by the reappointed State Congress committee chairman, Eugene Odoh.

BigPen Online recalls that the Emerhor faction which enjoy the backing of APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi had alleged that Erue-Ogboru-Omo-Agege tendencies of the party, which is backed by the presidency, APC National leader, Ahmed Bola Tinubu and former Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole had conducted the Saturday state Congress in defiance to directives from the headquarters of the party which postponed same.

But Omo-Agege had earlier told this medium that there was no counter directives that the Senator Olugbenga Obadara led committee constituted by the party’s National Working Committee, NWC was replaced by someone else, saying that any other Congress outside the Saturday state Congress is a parallel Congress that would never stand.
